From stressed to thriving at work – ‘Stepping up and stepping back’

Issue
Sally felt she took good care of herself. She was mindful of exercise, eating right and not burning the candle at both ends. She had an excellent network of family and friends. In her mind, the only thing she needed to manage better was work stress. She was easily distracted at work and found it difficult to switch off afterward. She had regular 'Sunday evening anxiety' and dreaded the thought of going to work on Monday morning.

Process
Through attending a series of health and wellbeing sessions organized by her employer, she met Calodagh and started meditation.

Result
Meditation has enabled Sally to 'step up and step back' at work. It has helped her prioritize what needs to be done immediately and what can wait. She no longer has Sunday evening anxiety, enjoys her work and is more productive. From anxious to living life

Siobhan, Student and Healthcare Worker, 24
Issue
Siobhan felt extremely anxious in her stomach in social situations. Symptoms were so severe, she used to throw up regularly – at least once a week – while feeling nauseous almost daily. The problem played havoc with her digestive system and affected all areas of her life that involved meeting people.

Process
Within a few weeks of starting meditation classes with Calodagh, the problem reduced and within a few months, this problem left altogether. In one workshop, she felt her stomach unknotting in a very powerful way.

Reduced heart rate and calmer

Issue
Mary had the tendency to get worked up over small and big things. Her heart rate on her fitbit spiked regularly throughout the day.

Process
She joined a 'wellbeing at work' session organised by her employer lead by Calodagh. After a 3 minute relaxation practice, her heart rate went to 56 BPM (beats per minute) after having been as high as 116 BPM earlier that morning even though she had not been exercising. She was surprised and delighted with the unexpected result.

Result
Mary is now making an effort to practice meditation on a regular basis – and is more conscious of the need to be calmer and the effect not regulating her stress and emotions is having on her mind and body. This understanding is also motivating her to reduce her stress levels and take action on a daily basis to address.

From overwhelmed to clear and calm

Issue
David had a lot of unhealthy stress in his life. As a business owner / manager, there was a lot of pressure managing staff, finances and day-to-day business matters as well as juggling the various balls and compliance considerations that running a busy food business involves. He frequently felt overwhelmed. The pressures often carried over into family life and regularly interupted his sleep.

Process
He started practicing group meditation with Calodagh nearly four years ago. He attends a weekly class and practices regularly.

Letting go of the people that make you mad

Henry, Entrepreneur, 44
Issue
Henry came to Calodagh for 1:1 wellbeing coaching to help him overcome problems that were bothering him for a long time. He had a number of stresses that were preventing him from moving forward and being happy. He was still obsessed with his ex-partner from whom he was separated over 6 years and felt demoralized every time he interacted with her which was a few times a week because of his parenting responsibilities.

Process
Calodagh helped Henry see his situation differently and taught him a few meditation and relaxation practices that have helped him shift gears mentally and emotionally.

Result
After four sessions over two months, his ex-partner has disappeared from his daily thoughts. She is still very much alive but is not affecting Henry even though he sees her regularly. He is now tackling all the other problems he was not addressing because he was stuck in the past. He is much happier and healthier and so is his new partner.

Pain relief

Jackie, Business Owner, 45
Issue
Jackie came to Calodagh with severe hip and knee pain. She was also emotionally stressed and was hoping meditation would help her be more calm and peaceful in her daily life.

Process
Jackie started weekly meditation classes and enjoyed them. She made positive changes to her thinking and life. She felt more upbeat. One unexpected positive change that happened within 6 - 8 weeks is that her symptoms of pain reduced through breathing and relaxation practices she learned at the class.

Result
She is delighted with the results and her pain is bothering her less for the last 3 years. This has enabled her do many more things physically which has significantly added to her quality of life, health and happiness.

Sleep

Jean, Teacher, 62
Issue
Jean who is in her early 60s came to Calodagh to try meditation recommended by her doctor because she wasn’t sleeping well. She survived on 3 - 4 hours sleep most nights and rarely slept more than 2.5 hours in one go.

Process
Keen to solve her problems, she came to her weekly class and practiced daily for 3 weeks. Within this timeframe, her sleep improved significantly both in terms of quality and quantity and she felt much better. After quick results, she stopped practicing and her sleep problems returned.

Result
She resumed meditation and now maintains a regular practice which she enjoys and is sleeping through the night (mostly for 6 hours at a stretch) for the last 2 years.

From heart palpitations, teeth grinding, exhaustion and no joy to living a happy life

When Jennifer started meditation with Calodagh, she was so stressed that it was affecting every part of her life and included regular heart palpitations and nightly teeth grinding. Working long hours in a stressful and emotionally demanding job over many years had taken its toll.

Immediately, she experienced a sense of calmness and relaxation she hadn’t felt in a long time. The palpitations stopped within a few weeks and teeth grinding and the resultant intense pain in her jaw and related headaches ceased within a few months.
